Le Brassus, 17 April, 2023 – The Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet is pleased to present its new temporary exhibition entitled “Simply Complicated”. Celebrating the launch of the new Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4, this exhibition traces the human adventure behind the project and the many challenges that marked the seven years it took to create the most complicated wristwatch ever made by Audemars Piguet. The exhibition also revisits L’Universelle, the 1899 pocket watch that inspired this project with its ancestral know-how, human talent and cutting-edge technology.

  • Special Exhibition “Simply Complicated”

Caliber 1000, the self-winding movement that powers the new model RD#4, with over 1,100 components, 40 functions and 23 complications, which include a Grande Sonnerie, Supersonnerie, a perpetual calendar, a split-second chronograph and a flying tourbillon. In the special exhibition, you can learn about the technology of this complicated watch and the challenges of the people who completed it through exhibits that incorporate video and entertainment elements.

Simply Complicated” can be discovered in the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet from January 2023 until the end of 2023.

  • Design & Mastery classes and programs for children

Visitors to the special exhibition will be able to participate in the “Design & Mastery” masterclass held by the Musée Atelier, which combines theory and practice. Available for up to four people, this four-hour experience on Thursday afternoons takes enthusiasts on an exclusive journey to the heart of watchmaking creation. The program includes a look at the history of complications and design with archives and period pieces, the assembly of a mechanical movement and a class in the emblematic finishing techniques employed in Haute Horlogerie.

The Masterclass “Design & Mastery” will be open to the public from the month of June 2023.

The Musée Atelier is also pleased to offer interactive tours for children aged 6 to 10 years on Wednesday afternoons. Mixing didactic and entertaining exhibits, the content of this guided tour is adapted for a fun experience.

The guided tour for groups of eight children introduces them to the history of the Vallée de Joux and its natural resources that allowed the development of watchmaking. They are then introduced to the achievements of the first watchmakers as well as the founding families of Audemars Piguet. After an explanation of the main watchmaking complications – while viewing some of the 300 watches on display in the museum – the children then slip into the shoes of an Audemars Piguet watchmaker for a practical exercise. The tour continues with a visit to the Métiers d’Art workshop and ends with a brief history of the Royal Oak.
