WATCH.SWISS Japan holds in Hokkaido for the first

Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry FH (Hereafter, “FH”) holds the promotional event, “WATCH.SWISS JAPAN” to inform people of all ages about the Swiss watch industry between October 18th and 31st, 2023 at Daimaru Sapporo. 

WATCH.SWISS is interactive exhibition where anyone can learn about Switzerland, the county where the watch industry has developed, and enchanting and interest of Swiss watches. Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Swiss watchmaking by operating tools with built-in touch panels.

The weekends’ special events will feature a talk-show on the “Swiss Watch Tour,” a tour of Switzerland that takes visitors to famous places for Swiss watchmaking, a hands-on experience of disassembling a Swiss-made mechanical watch movement with a master watchmaker, and a demonstration of watch component polishing with traditional techniques.

① 「SWISS WATCH TOUR」TALK EVENT
Date & Hours:Saturday, October 21, and Sunday October 22, at 1 pm / 3 pm per day
Ayako Nakano, Director of FH Tokyo will introduce the “Swiss Watch Tour: A Journey to the Mecca of Swiss Watchmaking” produced by the WATCH.SWISS Japan Project. The tour itinerary will be explained with photos and videos, allowing visitors to virtually experience a trip to Switzerland.

”Experience the disassembly of Swiss mechanical watch movement” with WOSTEP certified watchmaker
Date & Hours:Saturday, October 28, and Sunday, October 29, at 1 pm / 3 pm per day
Capacity: 6 people (The standing area is available, if the reservation exceeds the prescribed number.)
Special lecture by Mr. Hiroyuki Otomo, watchmaker certified by WOSTEP, the Swiss watchmaking technical education organization, and Mr. Takahiko Aigaki, Swiss watchmaker. Each participant will have the opportunity to disassemble a movement one by one with explanation and demonstration.


Demonstration of Swiss Traditional Watch Making
Date & Hours:Saturday, October 29 during 10 am – 11:30 am

One of the traditional techniques of Swis watchmaking, hand-polishing the shaft of a gear, is demonstrated. Using a tool called a Jacot tool, a shaft of the watch’s gear is polished to a beautiful finish. Every single part of a luxury Swiss watch is carefully polished, even the parts that cannot be seen from the outside. Experience the chamfering of gears is available as well.
