Mugino & Co. has officially begun handling L.Leroy, the prestigious French watchmaker founded in Paris in 1785, in Japan.
L. Leroy, a prestigious French watchmaking brand founded in Paris in 1785, was cherished by royalty, nobility, and cultural figures including Napoleon, Marie Antoinette, and Chopin. This exceptional craftsmanship and artistry, passed down for 240 years, continues to thrive in its Jura Mountains workshop.
To mark the official launch of L. Leroy in Japan, we are now accepting orders for the “Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon.” This model, already unveiled in Switzerland and highly acclaimed by watch enthusiasts worldwide as a limited-production unique piece, is now available.
This complication watch draws inspiration from a rare tact watch created by Leroy around 1810. Its movement, which combines a flying tourbillon and minute repeater, encapsulates the pinnacle of El Leroy's precision engineering and aesthetic design. In an era without electricity or luminous hands, the watch enabled time-telling in darkness by allowing the wearer to sense the position of the diamond hour markers around the case and the hands with their fingertips. This piece is a modern reinterpretation of that original concept.
The 43mm case, crafted from Grade 5 titanium, is paired with an 18K white gold bezel and case back cover. The entire exterior surface of the case is adorned with an intricate floral pattern, meticulously hand-engraved over 120 hours. The rotating dial features a flinqué soleil pattern finished with a translucent aquamarine-colored varnish. A fixed arrow-shaped hand indicates 24 diamonds (total 1.35 Cts.). Hours are displayed by a large diamond, while half-hours are indicated by a smaller diamond.
The hand-wound movement, comprising 321 components, incorporates a minute repeater with two gongs and a flying tourbillon. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 90 hours. When the slide on the left side of the case is operated, the minute repeater announces the exact time with a refined sound thanks to the case's sophisticated resonance design. The movement, visible through the sapphire case back, is protected by an engraved 18K gold cover reminiscent of the Leroy 01, once one of the world's most complex watches. With its soft aquamarine calfskin strap and openworked folding clasp, this unique timepiece is a masterpiece of precision engineering and artistic excellence, embodying the eternal fusion of the Maison's innovation, history, and haute horlogerie craftsmanship.
